BRING : (1) any guests you wish to include; (2) A food item and (3) a wrapped gift of value 10 euros or less for each person you bring (including yourself) so everyone in your party can participate in the gift exchange game.



About the gift exchange game...

Here's how it works:

1. Bring a wrapped but un-tagged gift of value 10 euros or less to the party and put it on the gift table (try not to let anyone see which gift you brought...be stealthy! And keep your gift itself a secret.) Bring one for each person in your group, i.e., if you are a family of 3, bring 3 gifts. It can be store bought or home made, serious or silly. As long as it's not obscene, it's fair game.
2. At some point in the evening you will choose a number from a hat. That is the gift opening order. Keep your number.
3. We start with whomever has #1. Person #1 selects any gift from the table and unwraps it, letting everyone see what it is.
4. Person #2 can either select a new gift from the table, or steal (gasp!) the gift opened by #1. If #2 steals the gift of #1, then #1 chooses another gift from the table to open. [Note: now is not the time to be shy or polite. Let your inner scrooge come out and have some fun being awful!]
5. Person #3 goes next. He or she can either open a new gift or steal from #1 or #2. If you don't particularly like the gift you have in your hand, you can try to convince others to steal from you; here's where your salesmanship skills come in! If you love your gift and don't want anyone to steal it, you can keep quiet and act cool, but you can't hide it. Hiding is cheating. :)
6. If #3 steals from someone, that person can either steal from someone else (not the same person who just stole from him/her) or open a new gift...and so on and so on until we get to the last person. *When it comes to stealing, one cannot steal back from the same person who stole from him/her during that same round, and there is a limit to 3 steals total during each round.
7. Finally, once everyone has opened or stolen a gift, Person #1 can look over all the gifts at the end and decide whether to stick with what he/she has or steal a gift from someone else (basically just an exchange). Then the game is over!
